My family's trip to Colorado, summer of 2020, was packed with adventure. My "Alpine Loop" post shows a different experience I had during my visit. For now, we are going back almost 1500 years to check out the incredible cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde.

The first picture is Spruce Tree House and the second picture is Balcony House. The Pueblo Indians made these communities in the side of these cliffs in 550 AD. These dwellings were discovered by two cowboys in the 1800’s. It’s truly incredible that they were able to build inside these cliffs that high up. It was about 300-400 feet down to the canyon floor. I can’t imagine what a hike it was to do something as simple as get water.

We did not get to go into any of them because of COVID-19; however, normally you can go down into these dwellings!

Really cool place to go and see that’s not only beautiful but a cool piece of history too!
